CESA Tryouts 2010/2011

The Director of Coaching and staff of CESA are constantly evaluating our methods for player and team development. In the past, players, coaches, and parents have expended a huge amount of energy on tryouts, when in reality the players' performance during the prior season was the best indicator of the appropriate level of play for the coming year. This year again we have decided to de-emphasize tryouts for CESA players. Coaches will use the month of May to evaluate all CESA players and we project that over 80% of our players will be offered a roster spot on a team before tryouts and will simply claim your roster spot by filling out a payment commitment form before tryouts. More assessment is expected to be needed for a smaller percentage of CESA players. These players will be asked by their coach to try out alongside non-CESA players at our formal tryout.

Schedule

  • 5/15/2010: Financial aid applications for existing CESA players are due.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Trying Out For A New U11 Team

  • How do I tell what age group my child is in? Check the age chart above. This age chart is for 2010/2011 Tryouts. The U11 tryouts are for 2010/2011 U11 teams.
  • What if my child is playing up on a U11 team now? Go to the U11 tryout. Play ups at U12 and above are determined by the DOC and his staff.
  • What if my child is on a CE U10 Academy team, do we have to come to tryouts? Everyone who wants to try and make a CE U11 team must come to tryouts.
  • My child is going to be U10 next year, can she or he play up? Yes. Come to the U11 tryout. If you will be a U10 player next year, you have the option to try out for a U11 team. The number of "play ups" on U11 teams is limited by league rules. We expect most to play in the U10 academy.
  • What if I am not sure about whether to have my child play up? If you are not sure, ask your academy Director or contact CESA Director Brian Monaghan or just give it a try. If you know you don't want your child to play up, do not attend the tryout.
  • My child is going to be U9 next year, can she or he play up? No. Players are not allowed to play up 2 years in U11. You may not tryout for a competitive team if you will be a U9 or younger player next year.
  • Can my U9 player come to the tryout to get the experience of a tryout? No. U9 players will not be allowed to try out for any reason. Having players at the tryout who cannot be on the team interferes with the evaluation process and is not fair to the players trying to earn a spot.
  • What do I bring to tryouts? The same things you bring to a training session: water, shin guards, and a ball.

  • Trying Out For U12-U19 CE Teams

  • Can I come to tryouts even if my coach already offered me a roster spot? Yes. CE Players who are offered an advance roster spot may still tryout. If you wish to try out for a team against the advice of your coach, you will need to request special permission from the Director of Coaching.

  • How do I claim my roster spot? Turn in the payment commitment form to claim your spot. The sooner you turn in the form, the better. Forms are available on the club website and they can be faxed, emailed, mailed, or hand delivered to the office. If you have not claimed your spot by filling out a form, we will try to fill your spot at tryouts.
  • What if I move to town after tryouts? Contact the Director of Coaching ASAP to schedule a time to tryout.

  • Financial Issues

  • How much does it cost to play? The board is committed to providing the best services at the best cost. We are currently preparing our budget for next year. We anticipate similar fees as last year, with some restructuring to give incentives to encourage timely payment. Printed information will be available at tryouts with all of the specifics regarding costs and payment policies as well as on the website.
  • How do I get a payment commitment form? The forms will be available on the club website.
  • I am already receiving financial aid. Will it continue next year? You must apply every year for financial aid and provide new documentation for this year's income. The deadline for application is May 1, 2010. You must turn in a payment commitment form to claim your spot even if you are on financial aid. If you do not turn in a payment commitment form, You won't be placed on a team.
  • Why is the club pushing automatic bank drafts (ACH) rather than checks or credit cards? ACH is the least expensive method for the club to collect fees. Credit card processors charge a significant percentage for each transaction and this means less money to spend on your children’s soccer. We have found that accepting payment by check costs us a great deal of administrative overhead. People forget to make their payments or they get lost in the mail. In past years, we have come up short by thousands of dollars. ACH allows us to collect fees and pay our bills on time.
  • ACH seems unsafe. What about fraud? Our ACH system is provided by Wells Fargo bank. It has been reviewed by qualified banking professionals who found the Wells Fargo system to be very secure. If you look closely at the payment authorization form, you will see that we only ask you to provide the information that is printed on every check you write: the bank routing number and your account number. You are giving us the same information you give every time you write a check. The only difference is that you are signing an agreement to pay in full for the year-long roster spot you are claiming.
  • Refund Policy CESA is committed to each player for a full year and we expect each player to be committed to CESA for the year as well. Once the soccer year has begun, no refunds will be issued, as other players may have been rejected on the basis of your commitment, demonstrated by accepting a CESA roster spot.
  • Uniforms

  • I want to try on uniforms before ordering. Is there a time for me to try on sizes? Yes. Call the office and talk to Lisa Powers 210-402-7511 to schedule a fitting.
  • How much do uniforms cost? The uniform package cost will be available at the fittings.
